Acupuncture Treatment

The ancient art and science of Acupuncture…

originated in China over five thousand years ago.

The art is based on the belief that health is determined by a balanced flow of qi (also referred to as chi), the vital life energy present in all living organisms.

According to acupuncture theory, qi circulates in the body along twelve major pathways called meridians, each linked to specific internal organs and organ systems within the body.

The uninterrupted and balanced flow of energy along these meridians contributes to one’s overall health, and blockages and imbalances result in pain and illness.

Acupuncturists attempt to help the chi move to along these pathways in such a way as to contribute to (or to restore) the energy balance along the meridians.

The acupuncturist inserts very fine, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points along the meridians and, by manipulating the needles, attempts to redirect and reposition the flow of energy.

There are over a thousand manipulable acupuncture points on the human body, and the exact use of these points, singly or in combination, varies from physician to physician.

Dr. Xia’s method of acupuncture combines ancient principles and techniques of this art with a modern understanding of the science of neuroanatomy, thus rendering the practice of the art both safer and more effective.

Acupuncture is extremely useful in the medical treatment of various pain syndromes, especially when combined with other, more modern therapies, technologies, and techniques.
